Energy-efficient building in Drachten

A single-family building situated in Drachten, Netherlands, features increased energy-efficiency performance and compact design characteristic for this type of construction. Both the flat roof covering that creates eastern facadeof the building and stone tiles covering the remaining walls have been made in graphite colour.

Cool climate of the building was broken thanks to wooden elements whose warm shade contrasts with the dominant grey. A large number of glazings have been incorporated into modern body of the building, both in the walls and roof. This action allowed to fill interiors with natural light which in combination with white walls makes rooms light, subtle and spacious. The subtlety is also achieved thanks to a minimalistinterior design which is characterized by a small amount of furniture and decoration. A small house in the suburbs designed in this way looks inside like a monumental building.
